Dahi Handi
India
The breathtaking sight existed in the rainy season in Mumbai.
Dahi Handi (दही Dahi=dairy products、हांडी Handi=earthenware pot) is an enthusiastic and joyous festival held annually in the Indian state of Maharashtra. Primarily a Hindu festival, it is based on the childhood episodes of Lord Krishna, particularly known for the mythological "Makhan Chor" or butter-stealing adventures. Dahi Handi depicts participants collaborating to build human pyramids, attempting to reach and break a pot suspended at a considerable height, containing butter. This requires participants to work together in a united manner, showcasing teamwork, and the challenge involves climbing to significant heights, demanding both skill and courage. Furthermore, the festival is rooted in Hindu mythology, allowing participants and spectators to feel a religious connection and share sacred moments.
The celebration is vibrant and filled with energetic vibes, featuring music, dance, decorated parades, and the exhilarating cheers as the human pyramid collapses while attempting to break the Handi. Overall, Dahi Handi is a wonderful festival where participants and spectators alike experience joy, excitement, and a sense of religious unity.

While scouting locations for a shoot on the eve of the festival, I was approached by a parent and child. They seemed interested in me and invited me to their home for tea. Though it was just a room in an apartment, their home boasted a large television and expensive-looking furniture, indicating they lived comfortably.
When I mentioned my interest in Dahi Handi and my visit to Mumbai, they frowned. And then, indirectly, they conveyed to me: That festival is uncivilized and noisy, so people like us don't participate.
It seems they don't look favorably upon those participating in the festival, not belittling the festival or the deities themselves.
There are various factors such as white-collar, blue-collar, education, residential area, income, religion, and more. And even in modern times, caste isn't just about differentiation but seems to foster discrimination.
Ironically, this issue forms a uniquely appealing culture that captivates me.
However, it must be noted that this issue is not exclusive to any one country. It's not just religion but also wealth, status, power, ideology, and political beliefs that can escalate into war, so it's a problem that cannot be easily resolved.
Moreover, approaching things from different perspectives leads to new discoveries, inventions, and values, facilitating our evolution.
Anyway, it's puzzling why this festival isn't globally renowned. What an amazing team sport that values trust and unity.
And it provides thrills and excitement even for spectators like me.
India continues to enchant me more and more.
